New education and training resources are now available to help aged care providers and workers prepare for the introduction of Australia’s new Aged Care Act.

The training forms part of the Australian Government’s broader implementation program ahead of the legislation’s commencement on 1 November 2025. The new Act is designed to place the rights of older people at the centre of aged care delivery while strengthening quality, safety and accountability across the sector.

According to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the training has been developed to help providers, workers and governing bodies understand their responsibilities under the new legislation and prepare for the practical changes required. The resources are available online and can be accessed by organisations across the aged care sector.

The education program includes learning modules, guidance materials and practical resources designed to explain key elements of the reforms. Topics include the rights-based approach that underpins the new Act, how providers can meet their obligations, and what the changes mean for older Australians receiving care.

The Department said ongoing education and support will be provided as implementation continues, with additional resources expected to be released over coming months.

Preparing for a new era of aged care

The new Aged Care Act represents one of the most significant reforms to Australia’s aged care system in decades. It responds to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and aims to create a system that better protects the rights, dignity and wellbeing of older Australians.

For providers, preparation will involve more than compliance. Organisations will need to ensure governance structures, workforce capability and care delivery models align with the expectations of the new legislation.

The release of the training resources is intended to support that transition and help organisations build readiness ahead of implementation.
